DRAIN CLEANING: WHAT TO DO WHEN DRANO IS NOT WORKING

Drano Not Working on Clogged Drain in Wyoming, MI

If your drain is clogged up and you have already tried using Drano with no success, you may need an experienced plumber to come out and take a look. The drain cleaning service experts on staff at Valley City Mechanical can work through even the most stubborn clogged drains, and will get things flowing again in no time at all. But there are a few DIY approaches that you can try before giving us a call….

PLUNGING THE DRAIN

You can use this trick for any kind of clogged drain: shower, tub, sink, or toilet. When Drano won’t go down the drain, grab a plunger. If you get the plunger to have an effective seal all the way around the drain, it can create suction that will dislodge the blockage. This can often be an effective way to get the drain flowing again.

PLUMBING SNAKES

Using a plumbing snake is another way to get rid of a clog that even Drano won’t work on. This device is usually shaped like a claw, hook, or pointed end on a long, flexible cable. You’ thread the snake down into the drain, then use it to break up the blockage into manageable sized pieces. Then you pull it out using the pinchers, and discard of it in the trash.

BAKING SODA + VINEGAR

If the drain at your property is working, but very slowly, you may be able to fix the issue with a household concoction. Once all the standing water finally goes down, mix ½-1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar, and let it sit in the clogged drain for 30 minutes to an hour. You can add a little bit of water to the mixture if you wish to dilute it.
